Dictionary of Artists

To meet the requirement of scholars, art dealers, collectors or simple amateurs of having a quick and effective tool at their disposal to satisfy the various exigencies connected with the world of art, first of all the in-depth analysis of the work of painters, sculptors, engravers, photographers, etc., the "Dictionary of artists" puts itself up as an annotated list of names, sometimes accompanied, if marked by an asterisk, by a biography and by some signature examples.

Each artist is matched with a series of index cards regarding the works registered in the Data Bank of the Matteucci Institute, which can be issued on request.

The biographies are taken from the Dizionario degli artisti edited by Cristina Bonagura, integral part of the work Pittori & pittura dell'Ottocento italiano (1996-1997), coordinated by Giuliano Matteucci with the cooperation of Paul Nicholls and realized by the Redazioni Grandi Opere of the "Istituto Geografico De Agostini", to whom the Matteucci Institute expresses its sincere thanks for authorizing the circulation of the texts on line.

PAZZINI NORBERTO
Verucchio (Forlì) 1856 - 1937
Giovanissimo si trasferì a Roma dove studiò, dal 1874 al 1879, presso la Scuola del Museo Artistico Industriale. Nell’estate del 1879 rientrò per qualche mese a Verucchio (Rimini dopo la pioggia, coll. privata): la sua attività di quel periodo ebbe una sensibile incidenza sugli ambienti artistici riminesi che si andavano aprendo alla pittura en plein air. Tornato a Roma, presto si integrò nell’ambiente artistico della capitale, conobbe N. Parisani, G. A. Sartorio e dal 1884 strinse amicizia con N. Costa; entrò a far parte della “Scuola Etrusca” e partecipò alle mostre della Società “In Arte Libertas”, fin dalla sua fondazione nel 1886. Frequentò anche le mostre romane degli Amatori e Cultori (dal 1885) e quelle degli Acquarellisti (1903-1913). Spinto da Costa, soggiornò in Umbria, Toscana e Campania, studiò la pittura del Quattrocento e si accostò all'arte preraffaellita. Nel corso della sua lunga carriera realizzò prevalentemente dipinti di paesaggio, spesso animati da scene agresti venate di lirismo e rese con freschezza cromatica (Aratura, 1899, Roma, Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna; Paesaggio con barche, 1910, Ravenna, Pinacoteca Comunale).
