Dictionary of Artists

To meet the requirement of scholars, art dealers, collectors or simple amateurs of having a quick and effective tool at their disposal to satisfy the various exigencies connected with the world of art, first of all the in-depth analysis of the work of painters, sculptors, engravers, photographers, etc., the "Dictionary of artists" puts itself up as an annotated list of names, sometimes accompanied, if marked by an asterisk, by a biography and by some signature examples.

Each artist is matched with a series of index cards regarding the works registered in the Data Bank of the Matteucci Institute, which can be issued on request.

The biographies are taken from the Dizionario degli artisti edited by Cristina Bonagura, integral part of the work Pittori & pittura dell'Ottocento italiano (1996-1997), coordinated by Giuliano Matteucci with the cooperation of Paul Nicholls and realized by the Redazioni Grandi Opere of the "Istituto Geografico De Agostini", to whom the Matteucci Institute expresses its sincere thanks for authorizing the circulation of the texts on line.

MOJA FEDERICO
Milano 1802 - Dolo (Venezia) 1885
Frequentò l'Accademia di Brera a Milano fra il 1818 e il 1820, seguendo poi le orme di G. Migliara, dal quale trasse l’indirizzo per la veduta storico-romantica, determinante per la sua carriera futura. Esordì a Brera nel 1824 e negli anni seguenti presentò soggetti molto prossimi a quelli del suo maestro (1828, fra l’altro, Interno di S. Maria presso S. Celso e Ritiro di Comingio presso i Trappisti). Dal 1830 al 1834 fu a Parigi, dove raccolse studi che utilizzò in seguito più volte (Veduta del Pont-Neuf a Parigi, Milano, Galleria d'Arte Moderna). Riprese a esporre a Milano, avvicinandosi ai modi di C. Canella (Interno della chiesa di S. Eustor- gio, 1841, Milano, Museo di Milano). Dal 1842 comparvero le prime vedute veneziane, che divennero tipiche nella sua produzione successiva al trasferimento a Venezia, dove fu chiamato nel 1845 alla cattedra di prospettiva dell’Accademia (Rotonda emiliana dell'isola di S. Michele, Torino, Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna). Dal 1875 si ritirò a vivere a Dolo sul Brenta.
